Substrate plant engineering
We design, extend and modernise substrate factories for horticulture, nurseries and gardening: raw material reception and storage, mixing and bagging lines, building and permitting.
A substrate factory is a process plant
A good growing medium is a precise blend of raw materials (peat, coir, compost, perlite, bark, plant fibres…) with controlled particle size, moisture and fertilisation. Producing it consistently and profitably requires a well-designed plant: material flows that do not cross, accurate dosing, protected storage and a packing line that matches sales volume.
We know the sector from the inside, because we design both substrates and the growing facilities that use them. That dual perspective lets us design plants that produce exactly what growers need.
What we design
Facility upgrades
Audit of the existing plant and upgrades to gain capacity, quality and safety.Building extension
More storage or production space, without stopping the factory and with permits kept up to date.New factory
Complete project: process, layout, building, services, licences and commissioning.Process lines
Shredding, screening, mixing, fertiliser dosing, bagging, palletising and big bags.
Project phases
Product and capacity
Substrate range, raw materials, annual output and seasonal peaks.Plant design
Layout, machinery, raw material and finished product storage, truck logistics.Permitting
Operating licence, fire protection and environmental requirements.Delivery
Contracting, construction, line installation and start-up with the production team.
Frequently asked questions
What licences does a substrate factory need?
At a minimum, a municipal operating licence and compliance with the fire safety regulations for industrial buildings (in Spain, the RSCIEI). Depending on the raw materials (for example, compost or organic waste) and the product, environmental permits and EU fertilising products rules may also apply.
Can you extend the factory without stopping production?
Yes. We plan the works in phases and schedule any essential shutdowns for periods of lower demand.
Planning to extend or build your substrate plant?
We help you define the capacity, process line and building you need.
